The Seattle Seahawks return to the Super Bowl Sunday, 12 years after their last and only Super Bowl win. The team’s fan base, nicknamed “The 12s” have a long, loud tradition that dates back to the 80s. The No. 12 jersey has been retired since 1984 to honor the crowd’s spirit and volume.

The number 12, and the Seahawks’ Super Bowl win in 2014 was an important day for Mayan Bomsztyk. She was about to have her first baby that day at Swedish Hospital in Seattle.

“My labor was taking forever,” Bomsztyk said. The nurses at the hospital made a special onesie that would be awarded to the 12th baby born on that Super Bowl Sunday.

Bomsztyk said one of the nurses was trying to motivate her, and said her baby could be the 12th baby and get the special onesie.

At the time, Bomsztyk said the onesie was the last thing on her mind.

“I remember saying, ‘I do not care! I want this baby out! I don't care about a onesie,’” she said.

But her son Samuel Bomsztyk Drozd, made an appearance in time to take home that title and that onesie, and the Seahawks bested the Broncos 43-8, the largest margin of victory for an underdog in any Super Bowl. Now, the 12 onesie is a family memento.

Samuel just celebrated his 12th birthday and has outgrown the onesie that’s decorated with the words “The 12th baby.” Instead, he wears a Seahawks Jersey with the number 12, in honor of Seahawks’ nation.

“It's kind of a cool story,” Samuel said. “The Seahawks are my favorite team.”

But, since he holds this special title, and since it has been 12 years since the Seahawks won the Lombardi Trophy and since he became their newest fan, Samuel said he’s also feeling a little pressure.

“It's kind of stressful,” he said. “I don't want them to lose to the Patriots, but I think overall it's a fun experience. I’m also excited to watch the game.”

Samuel and his family now live in Berkley, California. Despite living in the heart of the San Francisco 49ers territory, Samuel said his family will be hosting a Super Bowl party and they will be rooting for the Seahawks.
