2 killed, more than 600,000 without power in Western Washington amid pacific bomb cyclone winds

At least two people are dead and hundreds of thousands are without power after winds produced by a bomb cyclone tore through Western Washington Tuesday night, with gusts topping 70 miles per hour.

The Bellevue Fire Department reports that a woman in the Bridal Trails area was killed when a tree fell on her home. Another woman in Lynnwood was killed when a tree fell on top of a homeless encampment along Alderwood Mall Parkway.

Two other people were hospitalized after a tree fell on their trailer in Maple Valley. Trees also reportedly came down on homes in Issaquah, Mukilteo, Samammish, and Kirkland.

Incredibly, no one was hurt when a tree came down on a King County Metro bus in the Lake City neighborhood Tuesday night.

The power outages across the region topped 640,000 Tuesday night.

Puget Sound Energy said more than 400,000 of its customers remained without power Wednesday morning and it could be several days before power is fully restored. Those outages also impacted several hospitals and clinics including UW Medical Center Northwest, according to the Seattle Times.

PSE spokesman Andrew Padula urged people to avoid power lines as the utility continues to assess the damage.

"We are finding that some of these lines are still active and energized as they have been brought down by trees so that would be the first safety priority,” Padula said.

Padula said the storm was the one of the most damaging storms to hit the region in almost 20 years.
