As Democrats roar with enthusiasm, two Black voters weigh in on what they want from the new ticket

Former President Barack Obama spoke to an energized crowd at the Democratic National Convention on Tuesday night. He wasted no time criticizing former President Donald Trump, but also urged caution.

Crucial to a Democratic victory in November? The support of the country’s Black voters — a diverse group that has carried the party in incredibly tight races. We touch base with two Black voters from South Carolina we spoke to earlier this year.

Rev. Leo Woodberry is from Florence, South Carolina. He’s the executive director at New Alpha Unity Development Corporation, a nonprofit that works on environmental justice and development. Chris Salley is a grant writer and nonprofit consultant from Anderson County, South Carolina, who recently left the Democratic Party.
