Have you heard the new Stephen Malkmus album?
If you were into indie rock in the '90s, you might be familiar with a band called Pavement.
Jerad Walker of OPB music reminded us that Pavement was led by a guy named Stephen Malkmus. And Malkmus is still making music, still sounding a little like that band you loved back in the day.
“After they packed it up more than two decades ago, Malkmus moved to Portland and he launched a solo career here in town with his band The Jicks,” Walker said.
Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks are out with a new album today.
“It’s a pretty natural extension of Pavement’s sound," Walker said. "His signature sound is kind of off kilter. Guitars might be tuned a little flat, Stephen’s voice might not reach the note that he’s looking for. And in true Malkmus fashion, this release is filled with lyrics that are a mystery. His lyrical style is one fascinating vignette after another.”
Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks will perform in Seattle's Neptune Theater on Aug. 4.
