ICYMI: Listen in on this panel from Women’s March Seattle
The second annual Women’s March was celebrated in Seattle on January 20. Organizers say as many as 100,000 people attended. But those organizers had more in mind than a one-day march. They want to make a change.
Over that same weekend, they held events at hubs around the area, including this panel discussion: “Womxn Power Seattle: A Conversation Focused on the Intersections of Race and Gender.”
Their stated focus:
“We will hear from a diverse panel of powerful womxn about what it is like to run for office; lead communities; and build intersectional, interdependent coalitions. What is the difference between power grounded in people versus power grounded in position and privilege? How can we protect, uplift, and support each other in the near term while educating for the long term?”
Progress Alliance of Washington program director Kirsten Harris-Talley served as moderator. The panelists included:
Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan, Seattle City Councilmembers Teresa Mosqueda and Lorena Gonzalez, Got Green young leaders organizer Mo!, Social Justice Fund executive director Mijo Lee, Chief Seattle Club executive director Colleen Echohawk, and Washington State Senator Rebecca Saldaña.
