October has been a 'very deadly month' for Native Americans who encounter police
Bill Radke speaks with investigative journalist Stephanie Woodard about the shooting death of Renee Davis, a 23-year-old pregnant mother who was shot by King County Sheriff's Deputies during the course of a wellness check. Davis, who grew up on the Muckleshoot Reservation, had struggled with depression and was feeling suicidal.
The shooting is currently being investigated.
By Woodard's count, Davis is one of eight Native Americans who have died at the hands of police during October, 2016. In her article "The Police Killings No One Is Talking About" Woodard outlines how and why Native Americans are likelier than any group, including African-Americans, to die during initial encounters with the police or while in police custody.
