Ross Reynolds hosts a special hour of The Record, recorded live at midnight. We heard from night shift workers around the region about what happens while many of us are asleep.

Who works the night shift in Seattle? And what do they want people who work during daytime hours to know?

As part of KUOW's Night Shift series, we opened the phone lines at midnight, to hear from people just getting off work, or just starting. We also spoke to Carlos Alvarez, a night nurse, and Scott Plusquellec, who works for the city of Seattle as the liason with the nightlife community.

Liz Jones, Editor of the Night Shift project

Ross Reynolds speaks to KUOW editor Liz Jones about some of the most surprising things about the night shift and working on the series.

The people who reset the city

Every evening, after the 9-5 shift ends in Seattle, a countdown clock starts -- a countdown to get the city reset and ready for the next day. KUOW's Night Shift team met some of the people who make it happen.

Casey on a quest

Intrepid KUOW reporter Casey Martin is off on a mission. Will he make it to his destination by 1:00 a.m.?

Carlos Alvarez, Night Nurse

Ross Reynolds speaks to Carlos Alvarez, a night nurse, and we hear from listeners who are still awake.

Scott Plusquellec, "The Night Mayor"

Ross Reynolds speaks to Scott Plusquellec, who works for the city of Seattle as the liaison with the nightlife community. We also hear from listeners who are just getting off work, and like the peace of the nighttime.

Odd jobs at night

What would your day job be like, with the hours flipped to night? We look at some of the odd jobs of the night, and hear from KUOW reporter Kate Walters about flipping her schedule to report.

Casey on a quest, part 2
