One Small Step: John and Karen
Are you worried about the political division in our country? We are too, and over the last seven months KUOW’s community engagement team has been partnering with StoryCorps on a solution.
It’s called "One Small Step," an initiative that pairs strangers who have different political views for a conversation in which they get to know one another as people.
Today, we’re going to hear what happened in one of these conversations between two people based in Washington state.
One of the goals of a One Small Step conversation is for participants to understand why people have the political beliefs they have.
In this conversation, we’ll hear from Washington state senators Karen Keiser, who is a Democrat, and John Braun, who is a Republican. They have worked across the aisle and through disagreements over the years, and they are very familiar with the other’s political beliefs.
In this meeting, they learn a little more about the why behind those beliefs.
