Reflections on Trump as an 'American con man,' by author David Shields
A nation that made change by electing a black president changed again when it chose a real estate mogul/reality TV star for that role. Professor David Shields was fascinated by the fact that five million people who voted for Barack Obama, went on to vote for Donald Trump.
About those voters Shields has said:
“They are low-income, low-information, disenfranchised, blue-collar voters. They are furious at the varieties of ways in which the world has left them behind. Obama offered hope. Trump offered them rage.”
Shields is the author “Nobody Hates Trump More Than Trump: An Intervention.”
In this conversation with KUOW’s Ross Reynolds, he shares his frustration and fascination with all things Trump. Shields covers what he’s learned about the president’s upbringing, his “self-hatred and deep emptiness,” and how to push back against a 24/7 reality TV show. And that’s just in the first 15 minutes.
