The King County Sheriff's Office says two deputies were shot Monday afternoon while responding to a disturbance call at a Woodinville apartment complex.

The suspect was shot and killed by the deputies.

The two deputies, who contract with the city of Woodinville, were called to the Beaumont Apartments in response to a disturbance call shortly after 12:15 p.m. on Monday, according to Sergeant Tim Meyer.

Meyer said the details surrounding the disturbance that led to the police call are still unclear.

"Some sort of suspicious circumstance," Meyer said outside of the apartments Monday afternoon. "Someone potentially prowling cars or trying to take out items out of a car. As the deputies were conducting an investigation, that's when they came in contact with the subject."

The person shot both deputies, who were both wearing ballistic vests, Meyer added.

The two deputies returned fire and killed the suspect.

Medical teams transported one of deputies, a 55-year-old male whose status was upgraded from critical to satisfactory condition, to Harborview Medical Center and the other, who is stable, to an Eastside hospital.

Officials with the King County Sheriff's Department said an ongoing investigation into the shooting will be handed over to the Seattle Police Department's Force Unit. Neither of the deputies were wearing body cameras during the shooting, as King County sheriff's deputies are not required to by law nor department policy.

The Beaumont Apartments are a tight cluster of buildings near downtown Woodinville. Law enforcement said they're thankful nobody else was injured during the shooting.

"No community members, as far as we can tell, were involved," Meyers said. "Injuries appear to be limited to the gunshot wounds to our deputies and the suspect who is deceased."
