45 years of gospel music goes quiet
The Total Experience Gospel Choir is disbanding as its leader and founder, Pat Wright, retires.
After 45 years of raising spirits, the Total Experience Gospel Choir performed their final show at The Moore Sunday night.
Pat Wright, who founded the choir in 1978, is retiring and the choir is disbanding.
They opened up their final show to the public for free.
“I used to sing in the Total Experience, yes!" said Natalie Langford who waited in a line with her mother that stretched around the block.
"My sisters and I, it was in the 70s. I was in there probably, maybe, three years. Just absolutely loved it. Fantastic experience," she said.
The show featured prayers and stories of Wright’s work in the community.
Sherri Charleston, Wright’s niece, has sung in the choir since she was 15.
"I’m sad that that’s ending," Charleston said, "but I think that they’ve done a marvelous thing for the last 45 years. And I mean, she deserves a rest.”
Wright was joined onstage Sunday by multiple members of her family for the final show.
