Jodie Patterson speaks to Seattle on raising her transgender son
Jodie Patterson is a Brooklyn-based author, activist and the founder of cosmetic companies Doobop and Georgia.
She is also a mother of five children, including her transgender son, Penelope.
Patterson is an LGBTQIA ally committed to bringing underrepresented voices into the mainstream. Her debut book is “The Bold World: A Memoir of Family and Transformation.”
She was in Seattle on June 6 at Impact Hub Seattle for and event titled "Race, Gender and Bold Parenting.” KUOW and The Fold online magazine presented the program.
KUOW’s Jeannie Yandel moderated a discussion with Patterson and author and educator Spencer Bergstedt. Their conversation concerns the complex themes surrounding raising a transgender child.
