Filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy on covering difficult subjects

Academy Award-winning filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy spoke to KUOW's Marcie Sillman about her film, "A Girl in the River."

Chinoy was in Seattle for a screening of her film, "A Girl in the River" at the Tasveer South Asian Film Festival, which runs September 28 - October 7. The festival is also screening her work, "Look But With Love."

Director Sharmeen Obaid’s film, “A Girl in the River,” follows a Pakistani woman named Saba who survives an attempted honor killing by her father and uncle. In the trial that follows, she must decide whether or not she can forgive. Obaid was in town to screen the film at the Tasveer South Asian Film Festival.

Chinoy's newest film is "Student Athlete," out on October 2, produced with NBA player LeBron James.
