It took 10 years for the evidence to be tested, and now a possible perpetrator is in jail.

Darin Bolar allegedly kidnapped a 14 year-old girl and repeatedly raped her for two days. The girl had been walking down a street in Beacon Hill looking for a payphone when Bolar grabbed her, according to police records.

That was in 2007, over a decade ago.

It wasn’t until last year that the DNA evidence collected from that rape was finally tested. It matched Bolar’s. Washington state has a large backlog of untested rape evidence, estimated to be as high as 8,000 to 10,000 untested rape kits.

While his DNA awaited testing, Bolar continued committing crimes, including theft, sexual assault and domestic violence. He is a registered sex offender and was also suspected of groping dozens of women in Beacon Hill from 2006 to 2008 but never convicted.

Bolar has been denied bail and is currently awaiting a hearing. He does not yet have an attorney on file.

According to the statement of probable cause for his arrest, when Bolar was presented with a search warrant for his DNA, he said, "I didn't jump out of the bushes and rape anyone."
