This leviathan has captured our imaginations since long before Seattle had a hockey team. It's featured in everything from Clash of the Titans to 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.

To understand the origins of this beast of myth and legend, Marcie Sillman spoke with University of Washington’s Lauren Poyer, who specializes in Scandinavian mythology.
