As part of KUOW’s ongoing efforts to grow on-demand local news, KUOW is upping its coverage on the popular podcast Seattle Now.

Beginning Tuesday, listeners can find 10-minute news updates every weekday morning and evening. The episodes will feature the latest local headlines, interviews, and featured reporting from KUOW’s newsroom.

Seattle Now launched in March 2020 as a short, daily news podcast for the Seattle area. It has since gained a loyal and engaged following of local listeners. The expansion represents KUOW’s investment in growing on-demand news options to meet new listeners on digital platforms.

“As listener habits change, so must KUOW. More and more listeners are accessing audio content via their phone every year. Seattle Now is an easy way for local listeners to access the free, high-quality local news content they expect from KUOW and NPR whenever it fits their schedule,” said Marshall Eisen, KUOW's chief content officer. “It also ensures we have an accessible digital home for the extraordinary local reporting our broadcast listeners hear on-air every day.”

In its new format, listeners will continue to hear host Patricia Murphy in the morning with a breakdown of recent headlines and an in-depth look at one local story. In the evenings, listeners will hear Paige Browning with an update of the day’s headlines. The evening episodes will include original reporting from KUOW’s newsroom, making the podcast an easy way to access the best of KUOW’s audio news coverage on-demand.

"Seattle Now listeners tell us all the time how much they love the show. Sometimes they tell us they wish there was a little more news, so when we had the opportunity to add headlines at the end of the day, we were thrilled,” said host Patricia Murphy. “The evening news update will be the perfect companion to our morning show."

The new format begins today, February 20. You can listen to Seattle Now on KUOW.org or on your favorite podcast app.

The original reporting listeners hear on Seattle Now is made possible through generous community funding. To support the journalism of KUOW and Seattle Now, make a gift at kuow.org/donate.
