A small Eastern Washington town is an incubator for Seattle's art scene
Seattle is rich in art, but for some artists it is not an affordable place to keep working.
One solution is to look east, over the Cascades to a place like Tieton. It's a small rural town near Yakima; only about 1,000 people live there.
Today it's home to an arts incubator called Mighty Tieton, started by a man from Seattle named Ed Marquand in 2005.
Independent producer Pheobe Flanigan reported on how this experiment is working out for the Slate's podcast, Placemakers.
She told KUOW's Bill Radke about how a rural town is adjusting to its artistic transplants. How are they navigating the culture clashes?
