Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson says diverting nearly $89 million dollars designated for a project at Naval Base Kitsap will hurt military readiness and military families.

“President Trump's misuse of his presidential emergency powers to accomplish and ideological political goal is an egregious abuse of power that concern all Americans," Ferguson said. "Regardless of how they feel about Donald Trump or immigration issues."

The president’s plan to erect fencing and barriers along the southern border with Mexico is expected to cost $3.6 billion.

In filing the suit, Ferguson made good on an earlier promise:

“We’re here to defend our laws, uphold our constitution and prevent the president from harming Washingtonians economy and military families,” Ferguson said.

Washington Senators Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell, and Representative Derek Kilmer, have also spoken out on this.
