Why America's presidential campaigns are so long — and what Harris' shortened run could change

Kamala Harris is racing against the clock to convince Americans to vote for her in November. Harris has about three months before election day to campaign, which is a much shorter timeline than most candidates are used to.

For the past few decades, U.S. presidential campaigns have stretched on for years. But campaigns used to be much shorter and experts wonder if Harris’ run may prompt political parties to curtail election seasons in future years.
